Finding Calm and Purpose Through Volunteering with Yoga Bridge

PictureBlogpost about Yoga Bridge from a volunteer
I never thought I would use the words yoga and cancer in the same sentence. After my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer, our lives changed. There were countless hospital appointments and silent nights at home. I had to learn how to be brave in unexpected ways. This experience shaped the way I viewed the world. I started paying more attention to people, stories, and the small things that make someone feel seen. That’s when I found Yoga Bridge.

Yoga Bridge is a nonprofit that offers yoga classes to people who are still recovering from cancer, but it’s more than just that. It’s a community built on the idea that healing isn’t only physical, but emotional too. When I read about them, something in my mind clicked. I may not be a doctor, but I have a passion to help others, so I reached out, offering to help with their social media.

I help by editing photos and videos from their yoga sessions, creating posts pictures for their Instagram and website. Every time I work on any post picture/video, I think about who might be seeing it, like someone recently diagnosed or someone who had been through treatment, all of which who are searching for peace.
Yoga Bridge has taught me that healing doesn’t always look like a scientific cure, but instead a deep breath or even a short video that shows someone else doing the same thing.

Volunteering here has helped me find a sense of calmness I didn’t know I needed. It had helped me feel more useful and hopeful in a way I haven’t felt before, like I’m adding kindness to a world that really needs it little by little.
If you’re someone who wants to help but isn’t sure where to start, I’d say this, begin with what you love. Whether it’s designing, writing, or even just listening, there’s a place for your voice to be heard. ~Anishka Goyal
